PhD Choice for Actuary

May 23rd, 2007, 8:37 pm

HiI am a qualified actuary currently working in general insurance but I'm currently planning on changing career path to work in a more quantitative role in an investment bank.Firstly, however I am planning to do a PhD in Financial Mathematics. I am doing the PhD partly to further my career but also because it is something that I have always wanted to do and I really love studying.I have been offered 2 places:- A funded place at KCL where I am also currently finshing an MSc in Financial Maths- An unfunded place at OxfordI am leaning towards King's mainly because it's close to the Financial centre and I feel the teaching there is good, and obviously the funding will be welcome for a few years. However, I did my MA at Oxford and I feel that I may find it easier to study there if feeling slightly isolated from the finance community.Do you think there is much difference between these as far as their reputation and in terms of future career prospects? Thanks
