The problem is that information wants to be free and many are wiling to pay to get it. If you have ever given your business card to anyone at a tradeshow or put it your card in one of those restaurant "win-a-free-lunch" bins, then your card and its data is probably sloshing around in some database than anyone can buy. Also, if you put your work number on a credit card application, mortgage application, mobile phone agreement, then your data is probably sloshing around in some database than anyone can buy.At least, that's how it works in the U.S. I know the UK/EU is a bit more careful with privacy, but I'd bet that somewhere along the line, someone got (or thought they got) your permission to have fun with your data.
