Hi Everyone,Please advise me on career opportunities for me in business analysis in Quant/trading area.I am an engineer from India and did MBA in Canada. Before MBA, I worked as a business systems analyst in software companies in India. After MBA, I worked with a bank in Canada. And now I work with an insurance company. In these two jobs, I worked as a business systems analyst.I decided to stick to business analysis because I really like the work. Now I want to move into business systems analysis in quant/trading areas. Is there any such thing as business systems analysis in quant/trading area? With limited math skills, can I move into quant/trading area? I know programming languages (Pascal, C, C++) at a rudimentary level. Please advise if I should even try to move into business systems analysis in quant/trading area, if such an area exists in these fields? Thanks in advance

What activities does that involve?one big chunk of BusAnal field is Reqs and QA. suppose, u r building a payroll system. obviously, software people have no clue in accounting, so u need BAs to write reqs and to do acceptance testing.

Given that Zmei works in a rather large bank, you have part of your answer already. But the other part is that many BAs know fuck all about the business or IT, so cynically there is a good chance that you can get such a job.BA used to be a really plum job at banks, near the top of the IT payscale, and seen as a good path to management,

Its not considered that important now? How has the industry changed? Also, please advise how effective self study will be in gaining an entry in quant area? Can it replace the requirements for a formal degree like Phd or MFE?

If I learn C++ through self study, is there a chance of landing a developer job in Quant/Trading area? I have the book knowledge of various fields in finance and the work experience of working on various kinds of software applications for financial institutions. Please advise.

You won't get very far by just reading a textbook, and you will need to learn coding by actually going out and doing coding. The harder, nastier, more difficult the coding you do, the better.

Thank Twofish. Can you please advise if the combination of self study + CQF can bring me at par with MCF or MSc or Phd? Is the requirement for MCF/MSc/ Phd too important for recruiters to consider CQF + self study instead? Thanks in advance
