PS - Nice place to be a quant if you didn't want to leave home???

last time I had checked, they had 15 stocks listed on their exchange out of which only 5 trade on a regular basis. May now +/- 10 more stocks :-), so equities, equity derivatives, equity stat arb, equity market neutral are definitely out.

Banks make money out of trading on all exchanges. What are you saying??

I suspect there'll be a few somewhat quant jobs in NZ with banks and energy companies. Not sure of any names, though.

The NZ government has set up a KiwiBank, which only does retail banking -- cash/cheque account+home mortgage. Retail banking operations do not employ quants. A quant team does not add much value to simple FX/Equity trading activities either. I am still curious to hear whether there are quants working in New Zealand.

Given that there are Kiwi quants elsewhere in the market, it wouldn't surprise me to hear that one of the banks like BNZ or ANZ had agreed to let a few of their quants be based in NZ for lifestyle reasons (and it would significantly reduce employment costs), particularly in the risk management area. Obviously I'm not talking about a team of 20 desk quants, but a bank would often prefer to let someone good work from NZ rather than leave the bank.
