For a while i have been looking for a generic definition of what/who a quant would be , i know there is a range of these creaturesfrom Full-blown Quants to Semi-Quants to half-baked quants to people like me no-quants.But could you help me define a quant , something on the lines of" ESR's definition of a hacker."

My Google search turned up the MSN MoneyCentral definition of quant as "Also known as a rocket scientist, a quant is someone who is really good at math, computer science and the like and brings those skills to bear in the securities industry. The rise of computers and exotic derivatives on Wall Street is both a cause and an effect of quants. Such tools (along with the big bucks to be made) bring quants to the industry, who in turn create more such tools themselves. " Surely we can define it better than that! P.S. Love the link for "hacker" definition, Quantie!
