Even though the C++ may not be needed in the position you are looking for or working with, people will still use C++ to test your development skills even if you need to develop some programs in some other programming languages, say Perl. So not having it is definitely a bad thing, even though having it may not significantly help you for some position.

Hi KennyMingI don't think doing MFE maths at 29-30 is too old - or I hope not anyway. I am in a similar situation but finishing a PhD Statistics and hope to enter banking next year when I am 31. So hopefully it shouldn't be too late for me either. I think if you are less than 35 you shouldn't have too much of a problem, but I ain't sure how that would change past 35. There are exceptions that made the transition around 40, but my understanding is that these people were very good in a different field before making the transition.The question older candidates have to ask is wheather they are prepared to work with young PhD graduates around 26/27 who are fresh out of university. It could be better to find a role in banking that will allow you to progress further by focusing on your strengths rather than trying to be the best on something you will only be average on. Stats Guy
