bounced hard drive

May 7th, 2008, 7:32 pm

A couple years ago, my desktop computer bounced about three feet in the air and landed on the back of a flatbed truck. About a year after that, the hard drive bit it. So I had to make one of those bootable Windows CD's to get the files. The files that didn't behave weird. So anyway, for some reason the Windows on my new hard drive won't boot up on either of my two new motherboards. And I am too ill to go buy a $50 hard drive, and so I am reinstalling on the bounced drive. What can I expect?

It would only format 95%, and I was tempted to have someone drive a new hard drive over. But I did a "quick" format, and now it is running as smooth as silvery wine flowing in a spaceship, gravity all nonsense now

If it is a physical defect in the hard drive, it will likely affect a larger area of the disk over time. I highly recommend to replace the disk at the earliest convenience unless you are comfortable with loosing data and having to replace the disk anyway a few months later.

Which is great, because I left my cell phone in the rain, and I need a place to dry it out over night.
