I believe a quant trader is one who uses mathematical methods to trade. the same as algorithmic / program trading if I've not mistaken. It's more of a trading methodology than anything.A derivatives trader, well, trades derivatives - options, futures, swaps etc. It talks about the asset he is trading as opposed to the how he goes about trading it. Hope it helps.

I think there are 3 classes of quantitative traders. Algorithmic, Quantitative, MathematicalAlgorithmic traders use programs to try and achieve efficient execution and minimise market impact. Popular models include VWAP, TWAP.Quantitative trading involves trading purely based on statistical and mathematical patterns. This is a money generation area which is different when contrasted with algorithmic trading. Mathematical trading would probably be classes as option/volatility tradingRVP
