Special Goldman Strat teams

September 27th, 2009, 3:07 pm

Hi there everyone,Long time reader/first time poster here There's a couple of strat teams at Goldman I'm wondering if anyone can give me any insight to. They are strategist teams, but they are algorithmic trading strategists and trade their own books. Is anyone familiar with the teams/how they are compensated in comparison to other strats/traders at GS? Also, does anyone know how the firm as a whole regards them/if its a good place to start out in the firm? Or is it still going to confine you to being a "strat" in GS's eyes forever. I've read most of the topics on the forum regarding GS strats and have a bit of mixed impressions. Any info anyone could give would be useful.Happy to chat via PM as well. Thanks!

I don't get it. You seem to be implying that being a "strat" is bad insome way. Could you please explain why? I have not come across any negative posts on the forum about this.

I wasn't trying to claim that the "desk strat" roles are bad, but for me I just don't really like that they are supporting traders and don't have their own p/l. So the fact that the teams that I referred to below do have their own P/Ls is a big plus in my view.

goldman is now a bank. banks are discouraged from investing their own capital. look for the private p&l stuff to be phased out very quickly.

I know a pretty good amount of information about the teams myself, just looking to see if anyone else has anymore.

you need to update your information. goldman just became a bank holding company earlier this year.
