Two sigma investments interview

October 16th, 2009, 1:08 pm

Hi there again everyone . I have a campus interview coming up with two sigma, so I was wondering if anyone had any insight to what the interviews might be like. I'd even be really interested in learning about more specific details about the firm as I haven't been able to find out too too much on my own. I spoke with a couple guys from the firm at a career fair on campus--they defenitely seem like a very very bright bunch. But yes any insights into the interview process or the firm would be much appreciated. Feel free to pm.. thanks all

5 is good enough to claim discovery in particle physics, but we rule out based on 2 sigma evidence

i interviewed with them recently (and passed, now waiting for background check)overall impression is very positive, very nice office in SOHO, all interviewers were very professional, a lot of PhDs and otherwise geeky (in a positive sense) guysi'm in a PhD program now, going to graduate within a year and was interviewing for an entry level quant development positionhad a phone interview, code test and 8 interviews in-house (in one day)interviews covered a lot of different areas: programming knowledge, brainteasers, econometrics, basic finance, there was even one PDE questioni guess your interview experience may very depending on the contents of your CV, for instance, almost every interviewer asked me some questions about my PhD research

nicka81: What is your background? Are you a CS Ph.D? Is your research finance related?

If yes, then congrats. Can you give some more details about the interview ? I am planning to apply in a few weeks. Do they expect some finance knowledge or do they also give a chance to math/engineering PhDs. without any finance knowledge ?

nobody told me that i'll get an offer once background check is completeit was just standard "the interview went well and now we want to do some background checks"in my experience and experience of some of my friends (with different HFs), that usually means that the offer will be given if the background check passes okbut, of course, it is quite possible that they will ask for more interviews or simply reconsiderabout the interview: i do not want to expose the questions by posting them online, you are not likely to encounter the same set of questions finance knowledge is usually not a prerequisite for entry level positions and if you're a bright PhD (especially with some "hot" skills like econometrics, time series analysis) many HFs will consider you anywaybut if you list it on your CV, they will definitely ask it

just as a quick follow up--I had my interview with two sigma. It was really nice and relaxed. the two sigma representative was very clearly brilliant and had a really impressive background. All in all if he is representative of what people are like at two sigma, it must be a really awesome place to work.

How does one get their foot into the door at Two Sigma? This is my dream place to work at! I have a BS in Economics from the best school in the country and am currently getting my MSMF in one of NYC's prestigious schools!! Any tips apart from the usual networking et al?

I used to work in that building. I made friends with some of the analysts/managers. They would invite me up and I would raid there refrigerator. It was always stocked with good stuff. Great folks that were very kind and generous. If you work there, you will enjoy it!Good luck!

May I ask, what's your background?I also interviewed with Two Sigma on campus (probably the same campus as BigMike, who should be careful with his username if he cares about anonymity), and was curious if he had gotten an offer or further interviews, just so I would know where I stood.
