admisson to MsMathFin without BsMath

March 8th, 2003, 9:06 am

Hi to everyoneSurfing the websites of Ms programs (Warwick, Oxford, etc) suggests they admit students with a Bachelor degree in math related faculties. I happened to quit the local politechnical university after 2 and a half years and obtained Bs in Economics, and CFA. The admission test for the programs, and the required programing knowledge (VBA, C++) wouldn't cause any difficulty but have no clue how they weigh the test result and the lack of math related degree.Comments are much appreciated.

Kerub, I attended an MS Fin/Math in one of the above mentioned schools a couple of years ago. Indeed, most of the students had BS in a math related field, but also there were a couple of people with BS in Economics. It's not impossible... Moreover, the star of the class had a BS in accounting and finance, even worse the Econ, but was a local student and pussed quiet hard for admission. You might have to push equally hard and possibly asked to take an extra test in maths, but don't be discouragedAnton

KerubIf i got it you said you have quit your engineering degree and finished an economics degree and also got a CFA. Thinking that both engineering and economics programmes have their math modules on the first years and also economics students do considerable math (subject to the programme and the modules you had chosen) i dont think you would have a handicap in applying in a mathfin program. At the end of the day you can make a list of the math topics you have been taught so far and the passing grades. If i am wrong in anything on the above please correct me or message me

Thanks GuysAnton, do you think if I gained a Bs in Computional Math - I assume it would take 1,5 half year to take the exams - would improve my chanses: unfortunatly I'm not a pushy person.I've realized the truth "there's no spoon", but I can get one.

Kerub, I guess that having a BSc in Computational Math would improve your chances, but why spend 1.5 years for that??? I see no point in such a move. Do it if you want to, but not just for acceptance. As I said before, they had accepted people with Econ background. Since you realized the truth, push for it!Anton
