Cass Mathematical Trading & Finance MSc: Electives

April 2nd, 2010, 1:47 am

To all Cass Mathematical Trading & Finance MSc alumni.I have serious concern about choosing electives 'blind' as there is no indication about the teaching ability of the lecturer or the 'fairness' of the exam. (I don't expect that any academic institution will provide statistics on the mean, mode median marks or the pass rates percentages of individual modules.)In an ideal world, the only variable should be my personal interest in a subject, however in the reality of a non 'risk-free' world, compromises have to be made. Can I please have any feedback on the electives available? At present I'm leaning towards a selection of the following;SMM235 Islamic Finance (M Iqbal Asaria)SMM620 Trading and Hedging in the Forex Market (Paddy Osborn & Donald Lawrence)SMM618 Advanced Options Trading (A Ghiawadwala) SMM280 Introduction to C/C++ (Adam Bernstein)SMM274 Behavioural Finance (Chris Wagstaf)SMM529 Technical Analysis and Trading Systems (Roy Batchelor)(Feel free to PM me if you are concerned about privacy)

Do not take clasess too easy that you can study and learn on your own..take course relevants and challeging, thta might be useful in more than one way. That being said, forget about:a) Islamic Financeb) Behavioural Finance Those 2 you can read on your ownForget about:Technical Analysis and Trading Systems - Waste of your time...it might be a lot of baloney and, in any case...all you might use you will really learn in the job.take these two (or your pick, if you can only take one)Trading and Hedging in the Forex Market Advanced Options Trading On this one:Introduction to C/C++ You need to learn at least one good programming language, if you have never done that...pick this one first. If you already know how to program in one system...you can learn this on your own as well.

Maelo or others, do you have more details on the content of Trading and Hedging in the Forex Market? The course sounds interesting but it's vague!
