ABS is going to increase again but will have a black stamp on it for quite a while even though a lot of ABS deals have nothing to do with the crisis. I recommend focusing on something that's not as uncertain.

the point is, is there something in the banking industry currently not uncertain? except for energy~~~ OTC market is also shrinking, fixed income market is cooling down...... hedge fonds is perhaps good...but still facing regulation problem....Besides, OTC-swap has the same black stamp because of the LTCM story....they were once good again....not want to provoke, just hope to find what really matters in this industry...

Yes it's true that nothing is certain I would just view ABS as having a worse stigma for a while compared to the above mentioned things. Now the fact is that most of that stigma is going to come from main street so it may not influence banks operations that much but I just think there are safer options that might be equally or even more so interesting and lucrative to pursue going forwards.

Dude, forget about it. It may get back in few years from now under a different name, but in the forceable future no one is happy to provide liquidity facility for a supersenior piece cause one can be reasonably certain that commercial paper auctions are likely to fail.

thanks gill. point is, i have an mid-level position offer in structured finance from a large bank now. i thought the chance is good because i have to do from origination, structuring to legal part of jobs. but not sure about the perspective~~~i am now working in the risk area for rates trading, which makes a little bit boring. so what do you think of the offer? want to collect some ideas. THANKS IN ADVANCE!

hard to say. from one hand it's a good move form middle office to the business side, from the other hand this area is not growing market to say the very least and bonus potential is next to nothing... it's up to you, but i strongly feel like practicaly every other job in front office with any other asset class will be better than this one...although it's not that easy to get a front office position these days...

THANKS IN ADVANCE!If you want to succeed in the front office you will have to improve your written (and presumably spoken) English considerably. If the offer is form a regional office or regional institution where English is not the language of business then it does not matter as much.

I admit that I should have paid more attention to my English in the last few messages.

That it's not that easy to get a front office position currently is a crucial factor. I locate in European continent, where the atmosphere is more conservative. So I guess I will go, as I cannot learn anything through my current position any more for some time. BTW, I think CDS market in front office is worse comparing to ABS, isn't it? I hope it is not an example of "confirmation bias".
