Hi,I am currently working for one hedge fund in NYC and may join another one soon. What is the range of salary (and bonus) for a quant with five year experience and PHD? My current salary is $125K and bonus is about $50K (estimated for 2010). Thanks!

The range is not that interesting as it incorporates extremes. With your quantitative background I'd have thought that you would have been more interested in the distribution of salaries and bonuses.

Thanks, EscapeArtis999 and plus. I thought that I was underpaid. As for my background, I have a PhD in Engineering and MS in statistics from a top university. My first job out of school is the buy side of a top bank. Stay there for about three years. My second firm is an asset management firm (one year there). My current firm is a macro hedge fund (less than one year here). My next firm (maybe) is a new equity hedge fund. I am thinking to ask the base salary for 150K, but feel that it might be low.

I am not sure if I can get $125K bonus guaranteed. If I want to ask for some sign on bonus, does $50K sound too much? Thanks.

Depends on your location also. Although what you are getting paid in this market is sort of reasonable for nyc.

Thanks!What type of hedge fund are you working for? IT guys in big hedge funds/banks make this after five to eight years of experience with no PHD.

The new hedge fund I might join is a multi strategy equity fund. I guess that it is a long/short and statistical arbitrage type of hedge fund, not high frequency.
