For schools ranked 30 to 50 in USA, the starting salary for a fresh PhD new Assistant Professor in Finance would be in the range $140K- $160K for nine months, plus an additional $30K for summer. For schools ranked 01 to 30 in USA, the starting salary for a fresh PhD new Assistant Professor in Finance would be in the range $160K- $210K for nine months, plus an additional $40K for summer. You should note that these are only the salaries which the university pays them to put the nameplate on the office door. Once they get tenure, most of their income comes from Executive MBA teaching and consulting work.

I mean, I can't imagine that some science PhD with a conversion cert would be etting that much... Or does the afore mentioned PhD end up in schools ranked 500-550 and get 60k pa?

His 9-month salary is less than 175K.

To the best of my information, the professor has given you accurate information that the salary for a full professor of Finance at Loyola University would be $175 K for nine months.Loyola University would be ranked between 150-200 among the business schools. An Assistant Professor of Finance at University of Chicago would get $190 K + $40 K. Also, the teaching load would be less than half that of a full professor at Loyola University.
