Murex FC vs Market Risk Analyst

December 5th, 2010, 9:56 pm

Hi all,Just trying to get an outside opinion.Have been offered a role as Financial consultant with Murex in Dublin. Its a 2 year grad contract. LinkI am also waiting to hear back from an interview about a Market Risk Analyst position. Its for Depfa in Dublin. Probably not the best career progression (seeing as its completely nationalised and in a few years could be fully dissolved), but the role sounded quite interesting to me.My eventual plan is to move into something more front office in London after maybe doing an Msc or a CFA but for now these are my two options. I wonder if anyone could shed some light in terms of the murex role, does anyone know if its a good foundation in finance? Or will it be a waste of my time for entry into something more front office finance? Has anyone heard of what its like working for murex?Any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks

Going for Murex won't stop you 'progressing' to the FO but it certainly won't be enough. I worked on a Murex project in 06 with 3 other Analysts; two became traders. One is now an EQD trader at SocGen and another is an EQD trader at Goldman. The former did a professional finance qualifcations and made the move direct form consulting to an entry-level trader, the latter worked in trade support for GS for two years before making the move into the FO. So again, Mx won't stop you, but there is lots to do inbetween.

Check if you will be working on MLC (Murex Limit Controller) or MXI thought the Dublin office worked on MLC only which is a credit controlling system i.e. not Market RiskQuoteOriginally posted by: BigLadHi all,Just trying to get an outside opinion.Have been offered a role as Financial consultant with Murex in Dublin. The MLC covers Credit, Operational and Market Risk:http://www.bobsguide.com/guide/prod/1-1 ... r.htmlIt's gaining ground apparently due to the greater emphasis on risk management these days and Murex are pushing this MLC as one of their value propositions.

For monitoring yes.But if you want to move into Front Office, then I would focus on the Trading System side i.e MX.QuoteOriginally posted by: tradgamThe MLC covers Credit, Operational and Market Risk:http://www.bobsguide.com/guide/prod/1-1 ... r.htmlIt's gaining ground apparently due to the greater emphasis on risk management these days and Murex are pushing this MLC as one of their value propositions.
