I've been offered an interview for a junior quant analyst but would just like to know if it's a good step to take if my real motive is to move into trading - the offer is with a leading investment bank (don't know which as it's througth recruitment consultants). I suppose I'm still wondering if it's better to start a career with a prop firm??

Yeah, yeah....nice banter....seriously thougth, I'm hesitant to take it as my programming skills are only basic (little C++, and VB from undergrad and some in postgrad studies) and it may be too model orientated as opposed to hands on with a trading position?? I know this is an excellent opportunity as I've the inclination that it could be with Goldman sachs as the recruitment consultants deal heavily with them, so the learning curve would be irresistable. My only worry is the ease of movement into trading??

It's not the job you take, its the one you get after the one you take which is the motive. Here, I'd say better in than out. My career changes here have been huge since I joined.
