Just wondering if anyone has come across FUTEX. I'm considering taking a trainee trader position with them - they mainly specialise in futures and possibly options? Any views on there reputation in comparison to some other houses??Thanks.

Absolutely LordUrot.....so, have you decided to finally bite the bullet and take the position? Or still in the red zone?

Yup yup....I've sold my soul so there's no turning back! Gonna make the best of the situation - the opportunity doesn't seem half bad. Prop. trading has big upsides (large P&L bonuses, freedom to exercise your own strategies, better job security than large IBs) and downsides too (little or no client cash flow and perhaps restricted capital, low basic salary, little recognition). Who knows where I might be in 3-4 years' time.... the experience would be good all the same. Given the current job market I'm not complaining with what I have! As with any job, it's the transferable skills you acquire which make you more marketable, rather than the firm itself (although it does help). But I could be wrong......we shall see! If it's GS that you're dealing with at the other end, then that seems like a rather good opp. I have a friend in MSDW who worked in IT, and he blagged a move into trading. Now he's one of the few hardcore traders left after the recent wakes of retrenchment.

QuoteAs with any job, it's the transferable skills you acquire which make you more marketableYes, and this is the biggest asset for traders who are consistent with their trades - it's the % split offered with the firms capital which they are willing to back your trades. My only quarrel is not to become to specialised within one particular security!
