How to recruit a student for a PhD?

March 22nd, 2011, 12:12 pm

So I will follow your comments. I won't post the offers here cause it's against the policy of the forum but I will post on some websites you indicated. Please feel free to PM me if you are interested in getting some infos. At the moment I've post the offer on job PhD. The problem with true recruitment firm is that you have to pay for it and we are an academic lab not a bank.

I am not sure that I understand the question. If you are an academic at a university, usually your department sends out posters etc to undergrad institutions advertising the graduate program and prospective students get sent a list of possible advisors and thesis areas when they apply. If you are not in a university and you want to supervise a thesis, at least in north america, you will need to get appointed as a "adjunct professor" at the institution which will award the degree. If you are in a lab I would contact the local universities

Maybe in USA, in academic labs you have recruiting department and communication department but in France it's not the case. Researcher have to find their PhD students and their employees themselves. Which is a bit stupid because we don't have the experience for that and the time we take making recruitment is just lost time for effective research.
