Quants - PhD is a filter ?

June 9th, 2011, 8:35 am

On reading the books - Interview Questions for Quants by MJ and PW repectively, the questions didnot appeared of PhD Level, rather Masters Level. If Quants are being recruited based on Master level Questions then is PhD nothing more than a filter(in most cases) ?

Sometimes a filter, sometimes a requirement

The former can be done by MFE. The latter probably needs PhD. PhD is more about changing the way a person thinks rather than learning advanced math.

Job interviews are meant to weed out those who do not have a grasp of the basics, hence a majority of questions will be at non-PhD level.

You will encounter much harder questions in the actual interviews, especially if you are applying for a position that requires a Ph.D.
