What to do after Bachelors?

June 19th, 2011, 7:42 am

I see Trinity College, Dublin is #15 and it stills seems to offer a good range of topics. What I liked about it was you did pure maths and mathematical physics.http://www.maths.tcd.ie/undergraduate/modules/

When I was there the profs were all in their early 30s and had just returned from Oxbridge, Princeton, MIT.We were like 6-10 students at each lecture. Kind of special and cosy I must say. One of the guys in my class is now prof astronomy at DIAS, so that's a good influence. One prof (Petros Florides) was Phelim Boyle's (!) supervisor. They organise a Hamilton walk every year http://www.imta.ie/newsletter105.pdf There is even a ballad of Rowan Hamilton

Super interesting Cuch. Thanks.Btw, they should rename the Hamiltonian walk. There are so many better choices: "Hamiltonian path", "Hamiltonian flow", "Hamiltonian fluid mechanics" (if it involves a pint), "Hamiltonian cycle" (if, well, you bring your bikes), ...

At the risk of going even more off-topic (apologies to OP) we could even define a Joyce path Maybe a walk for another day.

it's hard to compare undergrad programs but paris sud XI and ens have better undergrads than cambridge at least. program wise, french schools give them a bit more creativity and flexibility and british schools give a little more structure. since when is real analysis and abstract algebra high school coursework in the UK? there might be a few taking it but there are some taking it here in the US as well, actually it's ramping up much faster here.

So, Bourbaki or not Bourbaki.
