Reading Material Help

January 24th, 2013, 9:33 am

Hi AllI have recently joined an asset management company and now work as an analyst. I am interested in any reading material ( papers/books/journals/websites/blogs etc.) which can help me make sense of the money flow between various types of assets like bonds, equities,FX,Gold, economies etc.I understand that this is more exhaustive and such info cannot be clubbed as one book but any kind of suggestion would be really helpful as I am starting my career. Thanks a lot

Reading Material Help

Hey Meelo - I joined this AMC from an Investment Bank with exposure to pricing derivatives like Credit Derivatives. The team was small and our normal working day mostly involved working on various pricing models. More of an quantitative role so to say. However scenario (in AMC) here is different . Guys generally follow market economics (as I get it!) and make sense/comment on money flow. All this is done , I believe, so as to be sure about investor pockets. An internal team of wealth managers , lists out market commentary everyday whereby they try to understand impact of news flow from FX to Gold to Equities to Bond Yields etc.Though , as I realize, eventually I would be able to figure out (as mostly things are following basic economics) but then again its a vast investment world out there. Hence , better to have a brief background.Hence looking for some material which is like bible to Asset Managers , some references which are essential in building up asset managers (like Derivatives by Hull or Fabozzi for Fixed Income)Let me know if this helps.

Take your boss and each of the 'wealth managers' to lunch, individually, and ask them to explain the 'big picture' of the businessto you: types of clients, how those clients make their decisions, etc. Also read the trade publications. My two cents.
