Jobbing in Switzerland

April 6th, 2013, 7:23 pm

Hi all.I had a look at other threads about (finance) jobs in Switzerland, but they are not really useful to me.Say I was successful in job interviews and I'm now due to meet the RH of a company based in Switzerland to discus the details of a job contract. In case the nature of the job and the employer are relevant: Job is a mix of (ag) commodities market analysis and trading analysis. The role will consist in developing the market research in the ag and biofuel (there are at step 0 in this domain, now), and spend my day seated along with biofuel traders so that they make huge moneys following my words (the ones of my crystal ball). The employer is a quite big energy trading company. In case the exact location is relevant: this is int tre Geneve area. Are there specific things I have to pay attention to while talking with the HR? are there specific questions I have to ask?Say the guy offer 100 salary base and 20 bonus. How much will I actually get in my pocket?I assume marital status and kids are taken into account in the calculation of net incomes of individuals in Switzerland. In my case say I am married, and I have no kids. What did you find very 'different' as an immigrant worker in Switzerland? (I am from proud France)More generally I welcome every tips that could (virtually) make my future life easier in the Alps.ThanksEd

All the best for your future! It's easy to survice in Switzerland, especially for a French in the Geneva region. A hint: hire a flat in France, it's much cheaper.

I have some cover models coming over to my house, and I am wondering if I should serve tea or coffee. Did I mention I have some cover models coming over?

If you can negotiate the 'foreigner's passport C' - there are tax advantages and gives you a much better status than the standard 'foreigners passport B'. Maybe you got it by default? Otherwise is worth asking. I know that it is negotiable. The tax is low, but depends on the Canton. I lived in Zurich some years ago, so it will be different from Geneva. Good luck!

Obviously it's not NYC, London or even Paris but it's not so bad.

I suspect she would not be too kind on being 'forced' to learn French.

If you don't (try to) speak the local lingo, you tend to miss a lot of the action.
