I would rather say - you better go where the one employer is, who wants to pay you. Birmingham isn't a well, if you find something better, you may move to London. Or anywhere else. I did it a couple of times.

Next job in London after this might give, say, +30% than what they get in Birmingham, and still be low compared to London standards. I'm not saying not to take it, just to consider the whole picture.

I'm not saying not to take it. This reminds me of when I was looking for my first job and everyone was like "ha! but only need to look at FO jobs in tier 1 banks paying 1 zillion£, the rest is total shit"

I think I read that 60% of DB staff is support function. I dont know how many costly functions like risk/quant/IT dev/Legal/Compliance/HR... there is in this bank (im talking for the market activities) for 1 profit center (say trader/sales/broker) but if you start putting the staff which make your money in 2nd zone location it might be that you have a business model issue.

As I mentioned, the rationale is that the front office in Birmingham is to serve some corporate clients. Not all clients are based in London, so having sales staff serve the rest of the country makes perfect sense.

Birmingham is 2h by train from London.
