Hi all,Im reaching out to you to ask for your help with coming up for a good name for the team I am currently working in. We are a "Financial engineering like" team working on the trading floor for a mid-size investment bank (around 200 traders). Our team was set up a bit "in a rush" a few years ago and we ended up with the label/name "System specialists". This name was supposed to be temporary, but today it still remains. No one really thinks this is a label that describes our profile very well, and simply nothing that gives our business cards, cv etc fair value. Basically we just have to come up with a new good team name and our HR/Management will try to have it changed for us. It should be a team name which could be considered standard for a team like us (not something just out of the blue). Would appreciate your help on this (Any appropriate team names are out there?)We have two candiates so far: - Trading Engineering: Sounds like it is describing what we are doing quite well, but doesnt seem to be a team name commonly used out there? - Quant Development: Seems to be a common label, but it could be that it normally refers to people more leaning towards IT? (we are not unix, network specialists or so, though we have basic knowledge in these areas as well). Also: Unfortunately, the name Financial Engineering is already taken by another department working outside trading (Asset management, risk etc)Below I am trying to describe our activites, but please let me know if you need further inputs...Team DescriptionOur profile is a mix of IT (programming), Trading and Financial Mathematics. We are working on the trading floor helping traders to invent and implement new solutions. In some sense we are also the link between Trading - Risk, Trading - BO Office, Trading - IT and so on. (Participating in quantitative projects involving other functions and departments)Our Activities:- "On-the-fly" quant support helping traders with model settings, quoting settings, hedging issues, fixing problems etc- Implementing new models for structured products pricing (local vol, heston etc)- Creating valuation libraries (and using existing ones)- Developing and implementing strategies for Algoritmic Trading (Market Making strategies, exectution strategies...)- PL analysis- Risk Analysis- Preparing trading systems when issuing new products (conceptual design, implementing pricing logic, hedging tools, market making tools etc)- Developing tools for arbitrage trading (Algoritmic and manual)- Working cross asset on all major asset classes (Equity, FX, Commodities, FI, Struct Prod...)- Participationg in Trading System upgrade and implementation projects- Evaluating new softwares- Working with Risk Management in model and risk validation- Developing platforms for E-trading- Working with trading software vendors with bug-fixing, product improvement etcSo we are in some sense a generalist team with team members specialised in different fields. Our Background- We all hold engineering degrees (MSc Mechanical engineering, Engineering Physics...) With at least a major in financial mathematics (some have MSc degrees in Quantitative Finance)- We are developing on a daily basis in C++, java, Python, vba and other smaller scripting languanges- Deep knowledge in different Trading platforms and valuation libraries for trading and Position keeping, valuation, risk management... (many of us have backgrounds in this industry)- Many of us come from the Trading System vendor industry, where we used to work as developers, consultants etc- We are licensed traders on several exchanges- Some of us hols CFAs...Thanks + have a good day!
