Hello All:Not to be repetitive but I must. I am in the process of completing my Masters in Statistics. I am interested in trading and research. In a nutshell I want to play with models all day. I guess this is considered somewhat "Quant" work. I like that as well. Being that this board has a large vast of experience I would appreciate it I could get some opinions regarding career options. Eventuallt I will work towards a PHd but want to get my feet wet with some solid experience. I reside in nyc so any and all info is well appreciated. I am willing to relocate (i.e. london chicago)thanks again

In NYC, your best option is to get a hot-dog cart (preferably Sabrett). Right now a MA in Sadistics and $2.00 will only get you a ride on the subway.

"Thnks for the sarcasm Johnny but I wanted some other opinions in what direction I could go with a MA in Stat."MotoriahMy answer wasn't sarcastic. I was asking you what your question is. You have told us what you like to do and you have told us what you want to do. So you haul yourself around a bunch of investment banks, hedge funds, insurance companies and find out what they can offer you and what you can offer them. And then you deal. What's your question?

Hey N Dude, I agree with you! Motoriah, are you the dude who asked whether statistics is quantitative? No, it ain't, especially if your expertise is in descriptive statistics. A good career path is a job in a pharma company. I hear that they pay up to 300k if you are good at doctoring numbers.

Motoriah,Statistics is not a quantitative subject. As Elan alluded to, statistics requires great, creative imagination. A good statistician takes a list of dry, meaningless numbers (sometimes even one number) and turns them into an evocative, fascinating story, full of depths and meanings. Needless to say, great statisticians do not graduate from departments of statistics. They graduate from departments of art, literature and creative writing. LT.

I'd say study for the SOA Actuarial exam 1. It tests Stats, Prob, and Calc. If you pass, you could get a job as an Actuarial student. The pay is excellent and Actuaries rarely get laid off or fired. I know because it's what I do.
