This being finally spring and me walking around window shopping in the sun I suddenly had the urge to purchase a nice watch.  Something shiny. I haven't really worn a watch in twenty years and my last one was some kind of quartz crap thing I suppose i (got) bought in a department store. But now I feel i want something real. Also as a romantic gesture I'd like to buy my girlfriend something similar. Mind you no partner look but something that looks nice together. 

Couple of ideas:

Rolex Datejust
Breguet Classique

Budget is about 20k for both, so probably I can get two mid-level Rolex or two very entry-level JLC or Breguets. Additional considerations are that this being my first nice watch to buy i will wear it quite a lot and won't be able to buy another one until maybe next year. Also, now that I get a nice watch I might just get one that that every idiot can identify as nice watch. Or we get two Swatches and do 2 awesome vacations with the $$$.

Ideas, suggestions? Do you wear a watch and if so which one?

Borrow a Patek for 30K (you never really own a Patek as you know), or if you are Blankfein's level a Swatch will do. Best is probably not to buy a watch and go on a holiday.

I personally wear a EUR 150 Seiko, but if I were to spend money on a watch I would go for a less well-known (but respected) brand such as Baume et Mercier. This one is aroubd EUR 5000:
