Site is slow this week?

June 4th, 2008, 2:21 pm

I'm connecting from Denver, over a T1 internet connection and I'm finding the forums quite slow this week.

I am seeing the same thing from Calif. After clicking on a link, sometimes the wait is up to a minute before a response. That makes the site unusable. If this is not an internet (UK -> US) problem, but site specific, then time for a tune-up? (Only ~300 users when this is happening)

Not that in Brazil I have the fastest connection ever devised by man, but Wilmott.com is comparatively slower than any other site ... even ESPN's initial page loads faster.

I've seen this too in the U.S. If it happens, I find that halting the page load and reloading often helps. The problem also exacerbates the double-post problem because it would seem that the willmott.com's server gets the posting data but doesn't respond in a timely fashion which induces the poster to click a second, third, ... , Nth time.

I vaguely recall that the last time this was discussed, the cause was thought to be other websites using the same server (like some large retailers ?)neimanmarcus to blame ?

Today each action takes about 30 secs to get a response, which is close to unusable. The top level shows 568 users, so maybe that is too many for the board to handlewithout some upgrade.

Yup, and it is a server issue as ping returns an average time of 137msec even though it goes all the way to Rackspace in New York and back to London again.QuoteMicrosoft Windows [Version 6.0.6001]Copyright (c) 2006 Microsoft Corporation. Hello Admin and friends.
Website has turned very slow over the past few days.
It now take several minutes for a page to load on my computer and pages don't even load any longer on my cell as we speak.
I tried from both FR and CH if relevant.
Many thanks

Very slow from where I am in the UK. Looks like there's routing issue, Googling around it's happened before in the same point in the network.
Hopefully it will get better soon.

Hello friends. Website speed came back to Okish for a few days after, but it is again almost impossible to load pages.
More than enough to take the streets and protest, my fellow citizens would think!

There are probably various issues at play here. But one of them seems to be site scraping from IP addresses in various, ahem, less-than-friendly countries.

The site is so slow the various "Is the site down?" checks think it is down: tried two -- both said 'down':

I wonder how many bots are registered? Are they doing anything useful or just continually pinging the site?
