eBay spoilt my Quant reading.....

January 29th, 2025, 9:51 pm

So after a discussion with one of the valued sages here I ordered a second hand copy of Paul Wilmott on QF (no I didn't tell him). A tenner I can risk, full price is out of my league personally. It arrived today, with the Vol 3. dust jacket and the Vol 2. book inside.

I'm not asking for charity, sympathy or otherwise, I'm just moaning. I was after uncertainty parameters. I shall hunt for another copy. On the plus side I have Vol 2. now.

Though Real Options Analysis by Mun is rather interesting as is the History of Interest Rates by Homer/Sylla.

What have you all done to me! :)

I did some academic work on real options back in the early 90’s, and then face planted into game theory. And then I stopped doing real academic work, although did better research for a little while.

I'm trying to wean myself off Amazon first, now eBay, after repeatedly being sent totally the wrong things. With Amazon they never reply to emails and if you are lucky(!) enough to speak to anyone they are trained in taking immediate offence, calls end badly.

As to having just one volume out of three, in the book you will learn why "The whole is greater than the sum of the parts" can be applied to finance. Sadly for you, that is in Volume 3.

I actually have a real world problem I'm working on. But my take on the tech industry and startups is very different to most founders, so I'm knee deep in some interesting models that I'm trying to prove out. Hence all the reading. I'm more a practitioner than academic, there are days I wish that wasn't the case.

So i have to buy Vol 1 for the chapter index to tell me that insight in Vol 3 when I only have Vol 2 (with no dust jacket I hasten to add).
Back to Amazon Market Place then :)
