I heard that one of the judges showed up at the lab with a 6 pack and a box of condomsThey should use the computer on Dateline Predator

Blow for Delft's quest for quantum computer

Confirmation bias

But the Nature article is not being withdrawn because of this advancing insight, Tewari says. "The reason is a problem processing the measurements," he says. “The authors did not mention in 2018 that a large part of their measurements show no evidence for majoranas. They focused on the small portion of the measurements that may contain evidence for the particles. Not a problem in itself - these are difficult measurements - but they should have stated this clearly in the Nature article. ”

“The 2018 Nature article was written strongly based on the reasoning 'they are majoranas and here is the evidence', so it is out of balance,” says Jan van Ruitenbeek, professor of experimental physics at Leiden University and not involved in the research. “Only at the end of the article are other explanations for the measurements briefly discussed and these are quickly dismissed. Compare it to a crime in which three suspects are on the screen, but two quickly disappear into the background and all the investigation focuses on one of the suspects. ”

Another sanity clause at the end.

So maybe the first quantum computer in 10-15 years and why not a commercial one in 30-50 years max ?

Why not?

Google aims to release commercial quantum computing applications within five years, Google's head of quantum told Reuters on Wednesday, in a challenge to Nvidia's predictions of a 20-year wait.

A Special Diamond Is the Key to a Fully Open Source Quantum Sensor - Wired August 9 2025

"Most of the components needed for the quantum sensor are simple off-the-shelf computing parts, but the diamond needs to be what's known as a “nitrogen-vacancy diamond.” Its special molecular properties are thanks to the presence of nitrogen atoms that replace some carbon atoms in the diamond's atomic structure.
...
“I'm in the final phase of casting the diamond with the electronics—I hope to finish the device in about two weeks,” Gessa told WIRED. “I'm following the instructions from the official project, but I made some customizations too. My hope is to exploit this device to do some quantum computing experiments and also use it for random number generation. All my edits will be open source, so everyone can replicate and improve it.”

News you can use!

Every time someone brings up the materials science topic I do the Hulk Green thing, only in the opposite direction - to a PhD in spintronics. Something must have happened that afternoon when I accidentally stepped into the clean room triggering the alarm... Anyway, the NV diamonds are quite an old topic, also in the context of QC. They are attractive for spintronics because of the long coherence times of the NV spins and room temperature operation. The challenging part is entangling those spins - done by the photons emitted by the centres. It's quite slow and inefficient.
But would make a good quantum memory storage.
