OK, this is a long shot, but maybe someone knows: I'm looking for some biographic/bibliographic information on Françoise Choay, an architectural historian/urban theorist. She wrote "L'Allégorie du Patrimoine".I've tried Google, and I can't sort out what's of any use and what's not. Maybe someone can help. If so, thanx. If not... oh well...

I am starting to really hate the french. I mean, I post this message here, which has nothing to do with anything on this forum, on the off chance that maybe someone can help me (You're a smart bunch!). No one knows, no one answers. It's very simple. In addition to this, I also sign up on an architectural forum and ask the same thing and they come back with some rule stating that their forum is not to be used as a search engine (all this written in french... My french is very limited. Thus, the stupid question of who is this lady...).I mean, I'm not going to ask without first trying to find out myself, am I? I spent most of Monday afternoon doing just that. And, if these people are studying architecture, it's plausible that someone may know something about this Françoise what-ever...Am I being unreasonable?

Everyone here has always been incredibly helpful.I'm criticising the gits who constructed a forum dedicated to architecture, then can't have the decency to help someone who is totally lost.QuoteOriginally posted by: FDAXHunterHe's right. "I'm looking for some biographic/bibliographic information on Françoise Choay, an architectural historian/urban theorist."MelaI did a quick search. Here's what I found:First, from an Amazon book review:"Françoise Choay has published widely on the history of architecture and urbanism, and for over three decades has occupied an eminent position in her field alongside scholars such as Hubert Damisch, Jacques Derrida, and Michel Foucault. She is Professor of the History of Ideas and the History of Urbanism at the French Institute for Urbanism, Paris University, and teaches Architectural Theory at the Polytechnic University of Milan."So now you know where she is, why don't you just ring her up and ask her about her life? All you need are her contact details ... so I searched for the French Institute of Urbanism and found this ...Institut Francais d'UrbanismeHope this helps.

No problem. If you're feeling too shy too ask to speak to the great woman herself, at least you can ask the Institute if they have some biographical information. Best of luck with it.

Sweet child,I am just curious why are you interested in Françoise Choay ? Are you anyway related to architecture or arts? I did byundergrad in Civil engg. A few of my close friends are architects. At one stage I was very interested in theartistic aspect of architecture. I dont have any skills in painting drawing etc and I have great respect for person withthese skills. Although I dont know anything about Françoise Choay I have very limited knowledgeof history of ideas and history of urbanism. History of ideas is very interesting and it helps to get a good idea about theartistic side of the architects. Infact history of ideas is also if I am correct a part of modern arts and sculpture. It is a very interestingsubject and gives idea about how the mind of the great artists work.Expression of ideas is what any form of art is all about. And this is what I hate in engineering, maths or finance which istotal and pure logic. Creativity is in its most natural form gets its expression in arts, science involves creativity but subjected tocold and heartless logic. Art is expression of the passion and spirit of life and history of ideas will give a glimpses of that.Just some random musing.
