Opinions on Canary Wharf area ?

I'm with BetFut on this one. Also most of the modern flats have car parking making grocery shopping at the local supermarkets so much easier. Also, living in London is totally different to what you might expect on the weekends if you have a car!QuoteOriginally posted by: BetFutI have been living in Canary Wharf for a couple of years now and absolutely love it. Even as far as weekend activities are concerned, it just keeps getting better and better. Loads of shops, restaurants etc. You need one visit over a weekend to say, the main canary wharf shopping complex to see how alive it is over the weekend. O2 arena is great as well. I have lived in Tottenhan Court Road as well, so can compare the city to CW. Another big advantage is that you get luxury, modern flats in canary wharf (with concierge & leisure facilities), hate the old look of flats in other areas.

Greenwich can be a good choice, Fulham might be a little to far away, I think.

I'd like to take a contrary view and suggest optimising to make the commute time as small and hassle free as possible.Yes, there is little interesting in CW, but you are 20-30 minutes from most of what London has to offer. The trick is to have the energy to take advantage, and a less stressful commute will leave you more of this.

I lived in Canary Wharf when it was still the Isle of Dogs. That was 25 years ago and it used to be a really cool place with abandoned docks and huge open concreted areas with decaying warehouses. In its re-generated form i find it souless and dull with only pre-fabricated night life.I live in Southwark now and have just finished a project on Canary Wharf. Getting there and back on either the Jubilee line or the DLR is sheer hell. However, i used to get the 'Thames Clippers' which zips up the river in just under 15 minutes from London Bridge. When the suns out its a very relaxing way to commute. However, there is a lot of overpriced property around the wharf and it is just starting to tumble so you might get a good bargain. Furthermore, although Canary Wharf is a bit dull, Greenwich is a short walk through the foot tunnel and so is Blackheath.

I worked in CW and lived in Limehouse. For me it was really ok. I liked the atmosphere of the pubs around the basin and the quite neighborhood and with the DLR/Tube connections you're pretty close to the West-End life of pubs, strips and clubs.... On most of days I took the walk from my house to CW during the morning and in summer also on the evening on my way back home.
