It might be really good for your relationship to have a choice of languages to argue in. I'm generally embarrassed by the English's inability to learn foreign languages (I am English, don't flame me) but most of us studied French in school for several years. Seems like a great opportunity to learn French for her.

Agree. Refusing to learn the language of the country where you live is just a stupid prejudice. I would eventually agree if that was Latvian or Estonian but French is one of the main languages od the world.

When you speak to them in German they answer in their vision of the German language. A native speaker will understand but not someone who has just learned German. Stick at English.
