it's going to be interesting to see what Bloomberg does.
I don't think he can win the democratic nomination because he's too moderate. That's why he ran as a republican in NYC. In the 2001 GOP primary, he defeated Herman Badillo, who was a democrat like Bloomberg. There were 67k valid votes in the GOP primary versus 790k in the democratic primary. In 2005, there doesn't seem to have been a GOP primary (wiki mentions a couple of other would-be candidates who couldn't scrape together the 7,500 signatures needed to get on the ballot), so Bloomberg was unopposed for the GOP nomination. In 2009, Bloomberg changed the law so he could serve a 3rd term (having come to power in 2001 because the previous mayor was term-limited). He changed his affiliation to Independent, but again won the GOP nomination unopposed.

So if Bloomberg gets creamed in the Democratic primary, or realizes early on that he can't win, does he run as an independent?

former vice president joe biden may run, because he feels that it's his turn.
Actually, 2016 should have been his turn as sitting VP, but he was pushed aside so hillary could run again
He's got a bunch of skeletons in his closet
Joe Biden embraced segregation in 1975, claiming it was a matter of 'black pride'

De Blasio: Bloomberg will be ‘laughed out’ of 2020 race
which brings us back to, does he run as an independent if he fails to secure the democratic nomination

Mike is intelligent and has no interest in contributing to a Trump re-election. So he will not run as an independent, even though that would best represent his political positions. While he could win NYC as an independent, he obviously would have no chance doing that at the national level.

I thought he ran as a republican all 3 times. The 3rd time, he changed his registration to independent but he ran as a republican anyway
Republican Party
Although changing his party affiliation from Republican to Independent in 2007, Bloomberg decided to run again as a Republican and was uncontested in the primary.
It's a shame the democratic party has become so extreme that Bloomberg and Howard Schultz can't win the nomination

Forget about Schultz - he is temporary noise. Bloomberg is a current member of the Democratic party and would appear to be exploring his chances for a nomination there. It is shaping up to be a very broad field, not to say a field with many broads.

The establishment must not want Tulsi Gabbard to win the democratic nomination. She's a congresswoman from Hawaii, part Samoan and a practicing Hindu (her mother who was of European ancestry appears to have converted to hinduism). She's an Iraq vet (served in a field medical unit of the Hawaii Army National Guard in a combat zone in Iraq from 2004 to 2005), supported Bernie in 2016, and would appear to support an America First foreign policy in that she's opposed to stupid wars and trade agreements. She also wants to bring back Glass–Steagall

NBC News, to Claim Russia Supports Tulsi Gabbard, Relies on Firm Just Caught Fabricating Russia Data for the Democratic Party
The firm that was NBC's source ran a "false flag" fake Russian troll farm during the Alabama Senate race to enable the democrat to claim that his republican opponent was a Russian stooge

from zero hedge
This article is of course absurd. As we discussed recently, you will always see Russia on the same US foreign policy page as anti-interventionists like Tulsi Gabbard, because Russia, like so many other nations, opposes US interventionism. To treat this as some sort of shocking conspiracy instead of obvious and mundane is journalistic malpractice. There are many, many very good reasons to oppose the war agendas of the US-centralized empire, none of which have anything to do with having any loyalty to or sympathies for the Russian government.

It supports (perhaps weakly) my hypothesis that he perished in a New Zealand auto accident, foreshadowed by hundreds of posts on the topic. I don't think you deliberately cap off 70,000+ posts over 17 years with a link to a random story by a fourth-rate magazine on a minor potential candidate for an election a year and a half out in time.

It’s still Biden by a nose, but if Republicans have anything to do with it we’ll follow the Belarusian model. Or maybe the Romanian model. At least that ended well.
