I tried to move internally from the UK to US this year and HR basically came back to me saying that the issuance of visas had been so limited and restricted that there was no way for me to make the move until next year at the earliest. Even then it will depend on whether or not visa issuance will be back on track (I heard from somewhere else that only 10k H-1Bs were issued this year vs 65k normally).

It's pretty rare that I hear of internal transfers having major problems, so it's interesting to hear this.

Too much supply of Quants?IT people get visa sponsorship through some really shady deals. Some shady companies sponsor H1-B for the person and then takes 10% - 20% of the person's billing. Quite a large number of IT people are doing this route to get H1-B.

Both of them are expecting their green cards. But this is in IT.
