The IDF at least hesitated and asked them to abandon their posts before attacking.

Which I don't think they'd have done for a less connected unit, like part of whatever's left of the Lebanese Army.

I think those peacekeeping missions are a fiction. They have no teeth. It doesn't matter if they're present there or not.

Is this the lot of the Irish military? Protecting an installation placed by mostly Western governments after the same Western governments have essentially abandoned whatever purpose the installation was placed for to begin with?

At least the IDF operates out in the open more than the troops of Moise Tshombe did. Probably.
