QuoteOriginally posted by: gtgtalk to current students at IC, they will give u better idea.Recently IC had new director and he has changed the program a lot and hopefully now the placement scene must have improved....what i know after talking to alumni over there, almost everybody got job but only issue was many of interns/projects were not paid by banks.....QuoteOriginally posted by: Claudio2323Hi, I'm facing this dilemma:taking MSc financial math at KING's or MSc math and finance at IMPERIALI was accepted by KING's and I'm waiting an answer from IC.I would like to have a broad perspective on this issue and to know if there are significant differences..Thanks in advance.Mark Davis is still the director of the program. Prof. Albanese is doing a very intersting thing; however, it is a parallel program and students from the day program can take all of the courses in the parallel program..

Okay guys, (I know its a slightly different thread!, but its better than starting a new one)What's Birkbeck Msc Finance like, compared to Kings and Imperial? in terms of improved career prospects;cost- benefit ratio; quality of teaching; the mathematical rigour; use of C++ etc.Or any good infomation (not about the girls).Cheers in advance

Guys-I build/review Financial models (Corporate finance, M&A etc), but my recently my role has expanded to mathematical/statistical models in Market and credit risk, I would therefore like to enhance my mathematical understanding. I have read every message on this topic with great interest, it certainly has helped me understand more about KCL and Imperial(Math finance MSc), but could any one of you throw some light in terms of reputation/ credentials of teaching staff/popularity with employers etc on the following part-time courses also:Oxford Diploma/MSc course on Mathematical financeLSE MSc Risk & StochasticLSE MSc StatisticsImperial MSc Risk management and Fin. Engineering (Tanaka Business School)cheers

dude how goods your programming, how goods your stats and are you looking at gaining knowledge in market and credit risk only...Personally i'd stay cleart of number 1 in your choice...as i recall that had bad reviews...Choice 4 is brand new...although some of the notes on the rm course arevery goodChoice 2 and 3 start focussing too much on insurance...to be honest the birkbeck course looks good and you can study it part time...

many thanks playerCan work my way round in VBA-Excel, years ago did degree in statistics, but for my sins become an accountant and Msc IT.currently doing Birkbeck certficate course in statistics.Could you please expand on Oxford course? there prospectus say they have quite a few professionals (eg Jamil Baz)teaching on this course and it is resident so you study for four days which appears to be attractive option considering if your work load do tend to make you work late.

One information I got from an ex Birkbeck Msc Fin Eng. student was that the Birkbeck Fin Eng. coiurse director (William Perraudin) joined Tanaka... and hence the new Tanaka course. He also added that with the departure of William Perraudin the course is not practical enought. Theoretically it is great. However I am not sure about its reputation in the city.

The oxford course looks good on paper but i remember some people on this board heavily complaining about it.....From a personal note I cant really say whether its good or bad.....The RM course t Imperial does look good but its new so may be you want to speak to WP about it.Like I said i think the course you choose should be dependent on where you really want to focus...on making money or on saving money (ie Risk management) . They tend to have a different focus....Of coure you could become like me jack of all trades master of none

That MSc Risk Mgment and Fin Eng at Imperial is an interesting course.I've been making a few enquiries ever since they published they were going to start the course, and it was only in the last fortnight I got a proper brochure from them and they updated their website. This is a brand new course, and things like these organisational issues do not spell confidence for a course that is about to start in 7-8 months away. The fees are sky-high as well - just 2k shy off their MBA programme at £20k. This is also a course I would think is modelled from Birbeck's Fin Eng given WP's role there (which btw only costs ~11k).It's also 16 months long and 3 evenings a week (compared with 24 mnths and twice a week for Kings and CASS part time courses).A futher thing to note is that the courses are taught by the Business School, not the Maths dept.

I also think the MSc Mathematical Trading and Finance Course at Cass is worth having a look at. The lecturers / profs teaching that course are absolute top. Also, I think the employment prospects are fairly good due to its practical approach.
