Quote You are a great musician, I know. Please teach me your mysteries. Sadly I'm not. I played flute for a while but gave it up in high school b/c it was a health hazard. However the love for music stayed. There aren't any mysteries I could impart which you couldn't learn on your own, but the most appealing music to me has the compound time signature 6/8, 9/8 or 12/8 ED: although the walkmen often use a simple 2/4 so I like that too

close no, I more go for (off that list anyway) led zep. Although to be honest they do more of the metrical combos, eg., Kashmir.I read a while ago of an interesting study of music using deep structure ideas. We're all familiar with harmonic analysis (the functions of hilbert space). Deep structure is the study of the overall texture of music based on metrics, like the vectors of Hilbert space.

There are a few measures in 4/4 near the end, but it returns to 3/4 and 5/8. "The Ocean" is partially in 15/8. "Black Dog" alternates between 3/4, 4/4 and 5/4. "How Many More Times" contains 12/8, 4/4 and 1/4, "The Crunge" contains 4/4, 9/8 and 5/8 ... the list goes on and on.

I grew out of indie and into classical around the same time. There's no going back now .

Bach's fugues were pure mathematics. I'm sure Mr N. will agree .

> Was John Bonham the greatest rock drummer of all time? Or does that honour go to Mr Keith Moon ? Anyone see that Led Zep movie. Pretty funny.Bonham was much better than Moon - it's not even close. Keith Moon was actually a pretty sloppy drummer (this might get me flamed by Who fans). They both had balls but Bonham had precision too.But the greatest rock drummer of all time? Probably Carl Palmer.
