"Pet" monitor lizard finally captured - Boston.com August 4
Named "Goose" this 5-foot long monitor lizard escaped from his owner's home and ran loose for two weeks before being captured.
"Goose was eventually confirmed to be seen in Douglas, a town close to the Connecticut border sunning itself on the asphalt road. ...(It will be rehomed with a professional Reptile Center). Water monitor lizards are illegal to own without a permit in Mass., and though Goose was “somewhat domesticated, the lizard still had “razor-sharp teeth.”
Water monitor lizards can be up to nine feet long and weigh around 50 to 60 pounds. They are also extraordinarily quick, and can move up to 12 miles per hour."
Local residents had been very concerned about cats, dogs, and small children who could be at risk as Goose roamed around. Looks like he found a small highway and probably subsisted on road kill instead, but still.
