They're defending the interests of the US dairy industry, obviously.

"the US was unable to blunt the measure, although its delegation successfully struck language calling for the international health body to provide technical support for nations seeking to stop "inappropriate promotion of foods for infants and young children," and added the phrase "evidence based""

What's wrong with evidence based solutions?

Assuming that you're not an idiot, or shilling for ppauper, "evidence based" is a code phrase for "let's see how long we can kill little babies and make some money until they catch up with us".

digging up some old posts because of new information
this was about the house and senate hearings about Obama's DOJ and FBI using the phoney "Russian collusion" narrative to spy on (sorry, "surveil") the Trump campaign/transition/administration
So having a WH engineered meeting between the DOJ/FBI and Congress that only includes republicans seems a good way to go... The heart of our democracy, indeed. Other body parts come to mind.
I'm with you, this should have been done live on TV in a Committee meeting, and shame on Rosenstein for not agreeing to that.

fwiw, Adam Schiff is having a separate briefing on the document request

I'm a little surprised that Gowdy and Nunes are going to this meeting. There's been a pattern: the House/Senate committees request information, DOJ/FBI refuses and asks committee members to come over to Justice and discuss it. Committee members go to meeting and leave empty handed then DOJ/FBI leaks peripheral information and blames the committee members for the leak.

There is no valid reason for DOJ/FBI not to turn this information over to the oversight committee. They're stalling in the hope the Dems regain control of Congress and kill the investigation into the investigation.
It has been suggested that the reason the FBI/DOJ have been holding separate briefings for different groups of people is that they've been showing different "versions" of the documents to different people.
Nunes and Gowdy see one document, Schiff sees a different document which he's told is the same as Nunes and Gowdy sae.
Which sounds like an insane conspiracy theory, but an awful lot of the insane conspiracy theories about the "russian collusion" investigation have turned out to be true.

As stated by me at the time, there's no reason these documents couldn't have been turned over to the oversight committee (and no reason they can't be turned over now)

there's absolutely nothing wrong with an "evidence based solution," which is the common sense approach

Too bad they don't believe in evidence when it comes to climate change.

Assuming you're not an idiot, words in legal documents have established meanings, which do not depend on who proposed to insert them.

You naively seem to think that baby formula = killing babies. That only applies to Chinese brands. European and American brands are not laced with rat poison. There are even vegan brands of baby formula, for mothers who don't want to bring up their babies on the suffering of other mothers and babies.

Umm - the issue is not generally with the formula itself, but the dirty water it is mixed with.

What are you talking about? There's a big issue with formulas, but the good ones are OK (their advantage is that they are uniform - provide high content and safe proportions of nutrients, which isn't always the case with breast milk nowadays). You can add any water you like to them... Also, as far as I'm concerned, breastfeeding mechanism doesn't involve filtering the pollutants consumed by a woman from her milk. Besides, breastfeeding is the privilege of the wealthy - making women feel guilty in any way for replacing it with formulas is oppressive, demeaning and unfair.

I agree with ISayMoo that there must be the dairy industry lobby behind the decision. You're fighting Trump and ppauper so blindly, bearish, that you're risking hurting yourself.

I obviously agree that this is the work of lobbyists for the infant formula industry, but do find it rather alarming that the Trump government proceeded to threaten punitive trade measures and withdrawal of military aid to an “ally” (a rather quaint concept these days) should they dare to introduce a measure in support of breastfeeding.
