Overheard recently, with slight embellishment: “I’d like seven grain toast, poached squirrel eggs, one square sausage, two, not one, not three, rashers of streaky bacon from a pig born under the sign of Aquarius, and a left-handed tomato.” Hotel breakfasts bring out the worst in people.

I’m living through the sudden eggflation, which has been real, but also seems to be abating a bit. I just put a dozen extra large local organic eggs into my grocery order for tomorrow, and it came to $6.19. Three weeks ago, it was $4.99. But a week ago they were not available, and only some $10+ cartons could be found - perhaps they were those prized squirrel eggs. I abstained anyway.

I’ll check, but at this time (and place) eggs are probably more of a Giffen good than potatoes.

Checking Russet potatoes as well as little creamers (probably a trademark), they’re both the same price as 6-8 months ago.

The social stigma of owning a Swasticar should not be underestimated. I made a trip to California a couple of weeks ago and, at the time of booking, the cheapest rental cars to be found from the major agencies were Teslas.
