Just wanted to grasp others opinions if they know a great deal about Transition Management? I've been approached by a head hunter who has been filling me in with details regarding a position in TM with a European IB. Now from what I understand the people working in TM tend to be very experienced from Sales, Traders, Portfolio Analysts etc...all switching to offer the skills and advice they have accumulated - not to mention the large bonus for transaction costs..Yes, this is essentially an Investment Management position but dealing with much more capital up to several £B's..when managing a portfolio transition...Now how would others view it if you have the chance to move into this area at a young age - developing a career as opposed to switching. Again, the beauty that TM seems to offer is (not only the massive market growth in this sector) the involvemnent with traders, sales staff and also offers both some of the complex deaings with various financial products and pricings...but all the client presentations, relationship management when promoting your services! Before I go any further, it would be interesting to hear from others!!

Also, I'm under the impression that someone with say 2-3 years experience in this area is much more valuable if they decided to make a switch into sales / trading / soley - Risk management at a later date, due to the wide exposure that is available..

It's a fairly new area essentially dealing with portfolio transitions (biggest players are 1 or 2 European IB's, State Street, Goldmansachs and one or two other US BB's) between fund managers - yes, it has a great deal to do with brokers/ sales/ traders as orders have to be carried out if they can't be done internally and there is ofcourse the constant update within your group, with clients etc..We are talking deals of up £20 billion or more in some cases (which are highly confidential - this size creates enormous liquidity)!!!!!...Anyway, would be interesting to hear from those who know more - besides this has not really been mentioned here before and will provide a very interesting thread!
