Well if you like modelling in Excel it is very useful. Easy too learn too, especially with the automatic recording function. However, could not possibly believe that it would be useful as a prerequisite for a job. It's a tool, nothing more, nothing less.Beware of the VBA trap... "once learned VBA everything gets solved using VBA".. ;-)aka: There are other ways of solving problems too and Excel has its computing limits.. Matlab is more powerful when it comes to modelling and C# is a more efficient programming language..

"Beware of the VBA trap... "once learned VBA everything gets solved using VBA".. ;-)"So so so soooo true. How many times in-built functions and features could have done what some code has done! Although coding is more satisfying

Most firms will not use it as a prereq - as long as you've possibly used C++ etc or something either a little in your previous employment / postgrad course etc..I picked up the little VB that I needed when starting my previous position.
