Hi All, After getting a MFE, for the past 1.5 yrs i have been working for a hedge fund. Though the job is in the front office, all i have been doing is programming . The problem is i want to trade and theres no way i would be able to do it here. i started looking for jobs but all i get is programming jobs. and since i am not in school anymore i cannot apply to the grad programmes at any trading house. I am really frustrated and dont know how or where to begin my job search. any kind of advice appreciated. i am in chicago. Thanks

since you are in Chicago, you could check the job fairs at various Chicago universities.and if you have friends studying there, you could ask them forward job openning info to you.another way is to attend some professional associations/meetings and try to know as many people as possible there.I know it is easy said than done, but as long as you try hard, you will find the job you want.

I think programming job is a little boring in some sense once you focus on salary or title of position. try to learn to enjoy your work. still you could collect information in hedge fund industry. to keep a job is very important now, you know. because market is tight now. I am searching for job now and I sometimes even do not know where to send my resume. the most important thing for you now is to adjust yourself and find high goal in the work and equip yourself for tomorrow. high efficiency is our goal in business. so keep your job and become excellent in programming can also gain you a better position in a long run. the excellent trader need to be smart. you will be a smart one tomorrow. but you only need to consider the job for today. I believe fate will bring you some change.
