CQF - Does it help you get a job?

November 17th, 2004, 4:41 am

Hi, The CQF has been out for a while. Has it helped anyone here get a job? I was thinking about going through the distance program, and it looks like a substantial time committment. Thats all fine, just wondering if its actually helped anyone get a position - or even an interview.thanks!

CQF - Does it help you get a job?

The CQF was huge drive for me in moving from a software house to major Global Investment Bank. The rigour nature of the course gave me a big boost in confidence about almost every related subject about Quantitative Finance. Very soon I found myself confident in explaining about BGM models for valuing Bermudan Swaptions, implementing cutting edge numerical procedures for pricing derivatives, just to mention a few.Talking about interviews, with my own personal experience. banks who wouldn't have looked at my cv in the past were then keen to interview me. This was even during the course. In the end I had two jobs at the same time before the course ended and I had to make the best of the options. Thanks to CQF for changing my outlook in the Quantitative Finance field forever. I can only continue to improve on the priceless insights that the CQF gave me. What I am getting at moment after a year of completing the course, is the invaluable free-of-charge extra classes for the past CQF students. Looking back, I can say that the CQF period is the best six moths of my life ever spent.Oh! the wonderful guys who teaches on the course made me feel at home and part of a family of Quantitative Finance minded people. I encourage any one who want to do the course to do so. I must emphasise however, that it's not those courses out there which every can do. You need the mathematics, determination and the will to suceed on the course.Bombom

aahmad31, your statement is factually incorrect, and so not very helpful for young people trying to further their careers.msankowski, send me a PM with your email address and telephone number and I'll ask some CQF alumni to speak to you about their experience of the program and the effect it had on their careers.P

Once I considered taking distance learning CQF program, because I have been having difficulty with getting an offer due to no academic training and no working experience in finance, despite my physics Ph.D degree from a top school. But I was discouraged by the fact that just few months of course work cost nearly $10,000. Don't you think that it is too expensive?
