Hi everyone, just as a matter of curiosity, does anyone have any reading suggestions (Articles/Books) on the History/Philosophy behind the development of 1) Fourier Analysis2) Cantorian Set Theory (how its need arose from 1)).Odd question, I know.Regards,Giacomo

For Fourier Analysis, I really enjoyed"A Radical Approach to Real Analysis" by Bressond (available at amazon or bn.com)it teaches real analysis via its historical evolution. The answer to your second question may also be in later chapters; I had to put it down to move on to other things.Matt.

i think there is a book called the mystery of the aleph, which talks about cantor, and probably his sets, too.

Yes the book by Aczel. It's ok, but a little simplistic. I also found Shaghn Lavine's "understanding infinity" quite interesting. At times, though, it's a little tough (mostly the propositional logic and some metalogical theorems...).in any case thank you very much.
