Hi all,I will soon finish a master in science in management and a master in actuarial science and I just get an offer from a top Strategy Consulting firm (McKinsey / Bain / BCG). Nevertheless I have a real interest in financial markets and really like modelling positions ...This is why I am also considering being a quand / trader, for example Market Maker at Optiver (as the job description looks really good) or some other quant position Could someone compare both (Quant vs Strategy Consulting) on the following points1) exit/career opportunities (how easy it is to find another job, what kind of job ...) (really good in Consulting but what about a Quant/trader)2) the way we are threaten (respect, friendship ...) (excellent in Consulting! but what about a Quant/trader?)3) compensation (45k-50k including bonus for consulting, but what about a quant/Trader ?)Thanks a lot,

1) If u are quant trader, very hard to leave the financial markets industry, u can only moove to sales or research. From strat consultancy u can go to M&A, management positions in firms.2) I worked in markets and consultancy, respect in very present in consultancy, all juniors meet clients so HR threate them like seniors, for example u will never be asked to make copies or something like that. For markets, it depends on your personality, a trader won't hesitate to ask u to bring him a coffee when he is busy and when you are free, so u should take it easy...3) In the best of my knowledge, more money in markets than in strat.

As a general rule, you should choose the one you like. Quant, trader and consulting are 3 very different jobs.If you don't have a preference though, BCG /McKinsey vs Optiver has to be BCG/McKinsey.The real dilemna would be McKinsey vs Goldman.

And concerning modelling I don't think u will have to do it much in strat consultancy...

which is why mgmt consulting can be fun for the right person. you get paid well and pfaff around all day. make a few ppts, reports and thats it. the work hours are not too bad either. And best of all, as pointed out, nobody will ask you to get them coffee. but if you dont like the job then no point right?
