Hello Wilmott Community,Internships seem to me a good way to find out whether one likes a future job or not. But talking to people, I got the impression that internships in Ibanks help a lot to find a job in corporate finance. How is the situation in the quant sector, how important are internships for the job search there? Or asked differently, after graduation in finance, would you look directly for a job as a junior quant or do an internship first ?Comments highly appreciatedPythix

Internships are great for during holidays while you are studying. They are a great short-term job, and in many cases lead directly to a full-time position once you graduate. However, once you have graduated, should you take an internship? If you can get a job that you think you will be happy in, then take it. An actual job will always teach you more about what it is really like to work somewhere than an internship. After a year or so you can always move into a better area if need be. If you can't get a decent job however, an internship is certainly better than working at McDonalds or getting depressed doing nothing.Hope I haven't simplified the issue too much.

Every internhip can be helpful, even for just networking reasons, once you dont spend your time in making coffees and printing photocopies
