Hi everyone,I am a sorta new member on this website (just abt a month old) but have indeed become a big fan of this platform... now, this is my first post and I need a bit of help from the many brains around...I am currently an equity analyst (junior yet, just abt 7m out of B-School) with JPMorgan and am planning to start setting grounds for applying to a PhD sometime next year... could some of you suggest me a few interesting topics for the same... aahmmm I have an MBA (Fin Mkts/Corp Fin) from Imperial College London and since I lack a numeric background, I am currently pursuing a BSc in Mathematics from London Sch of Econ to cover this up for my PhD... that might give you an idea of topics that might be fit for me... My interests lie particularly in equities, FX, corp finance, contemporary topics in finance ie. use of genetic algorithms n neural networks for invstmts, etc etc (this sounds sexy and VERY interesting but i just dont know where to start from)Will appreciate guidance in this regard... Tnx

hey juli, got your email too... once again, havent decided upon the schools yet... once the topic is decided I can then see which univs have the suitable faculty and facilities to allow the same.. however, i might apply to Oxbridge, Wharton, NYU or Carnegie Mellon to name a few... and well i ain't planning to leave JPMorgan tommorow... have been here for abt 8m now and its a great place to work... moving into a PhD will still take atleast a year or more (proposal prep, applications, GMAT again, interviews, schols..... its a long process) but the planning needs to commence pretty soon...Nesh

Since I am currently looking into the same options after finishing my current degree - all I am going to write down the avice I got from one of my lecturers:1. Find a topic area you are interested in.2. Find a specific topic that you the academic and professional field are interested in.3. Find the best suitable supervisor (i.e. established researcher - academic)4. Get into contact with the supervisor you identified most suitable for you.5. Go to the institute where the supervisor is located.I am writing this because I thought that it would work out the approach you are considering to take, but the lecturer told me otherwise.I hope that this information is useful to you despite me not being helpful in finding a particular topic for your thesis.
