What kind of school for a structurer role ?

December 15th, 2005, 10:03 am

I'm in Paris at the moment, and it's quite clear what to do if you want to go into trading (DESS203) or in a quant role (P6/P7).What I'm not so sure of is - which one to choose if you want to be a structurer ? Are the most quantitative degrees (the latter ones) a prerequisite, or are those lighter on maths and more focused on the business side an option ? I'd say the former, but I'd like a confirmation.I'd be happy to hear advices from people outside France too, of course.

Depends. A quant can become a structurer and have someone sell it for him (but he may produce useless structures). On the other hand, salesmen can become structurers because they know what the client wants. He just have to ask help from quants to value it for him (but he somtimes makes up someting impossible to value). You need a balance here.
